Duties:Performs clerical functions required to service the needs of the patient, providers and organization.

Serves as a liaison between patients, nurses, physicians, and others. Provides excellent customer service and greets patients entering the practice via phone by centralized scheduling.

Provides a standard of excellence as it relates to customer service for patients and other customers.
Maintains patient privacy.

Receives and directs telephone calls to the appropriate personnel and tries to handle at the level to make appointments. Also makes phone contacts to other departments, physicians, patients and other outside organizations as necessary for the practice operations.

Maintains patient scheduling functions, and sets patient appointments through established guidelines.

Interviews and completes the registration process for patients utilizing the specific service.

Follows appropriate standard operating procedures for protocols.

May perform other routine clerical duties for the group.

Prepares and maintains all clerical aspects of the medical records through established guidelines for notes to clinics and providers.

Correctly utilizes all required electronic systems.
Adheres to all regulatory requirements such as CLIA, HIPAA, etc.
Qualifications:Must be able to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, or unusual situations.
Must be capable of dealing with periodic cyclical workload pressures and levels of responsibility.

Required to make independent judgments without supervision, but notify supervisors of issues and concerns.

Must be able to make generalizations, evaluations, or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria.

Must have the adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. Requires the ability to work with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

The ability to speak Spanish.

Requires excellent decision making skills and initiative. Must be very detailed oriented. Basic arithmetic skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and organize work flow.

Two to four years clerical/customer service experience preferred, ideally in a health care related industry. One year experience with third party payors, and computer experience for inputing data and reviewing patient demographic material preferred. Data entry experience required.

High school diploma or GED equivalent required. ICD-9 and CPT coding preferred. Completion of a standard medical terminology course helpful, but not required. CPR certification preferred.
